News
Well Memorial Day is upon us , though it still feels like early April. Fishing has started out pretty decent. Many many schoolies have been caught since the beginning of the month. There was a 51.66 pounder caught from shore (of course it is a secret place) late at night last week, so i guess right time right place is the ticket. Mulitple keepers have been caught off the breachways and local beaches.
Bunker is being snagged all over the place, live lined or chunked off the bottom has be working to land some nice keeper sized bass. Cocahoes thrown with eggs or a 3/8 ths head, bucktails with curly tails, arkansas shiner zoom flukes, Squid-zees (24/7 LURES), Rapalla swimmers, Diawa SP minnows, tube (T-Man Pink is the favorite) and worm, Smack Its JR, teasers, Storm Shad, are some of the top local lures being used for stripers. RI regs 28 inches, 2 fish.
Fluke fishing is also in the news. It has been off to a good start. Locally, going out of Quonny Pond, and fishing in about 40 feet with a THOM CAT Fluke rig tagged with spearing and a squid strip are working well. Pink seems hot. Getting a good drift has not be an issue. Don"t forget RI is now 18 inches, 8 fish.
Tautog is almost over, May 27 is the last day for RI and does not begin again until August 1st. Crab has been doing the job on some nice keepers. RI REGs 3 fish and 16 inches, but there is a max of 10 fish per boat no matter how many anglers. Keepers were caught this past week from the local shore spots.
Bluefish have already moved in to some of the breachways and local ponds. We saw some at the shop that were 30 -32 inches. RI REG 15 fish.
I know its been cooler this year than last, but the fishing has been very good. We are fully stocked, T Man, Super Strike this week, Smack Its,Striper Maine iac, Atoms, Bombers, SP Minnows, Spros, bucktails, flies, Zara Spooks, Anco, Point Jude....just to name a few. EELs, srearing, local squid, salted clams, sandworms, night crawlers, meal worms, trout worms..and we are carrying more fresh water supplies.
I have a facebook page Quonny Bait and Tackle that we keep updated daily..its so much easier than the web page. www.facebook.com it comes to my page and you can type in Quonny Bait and Tackle search from there. We have a few bait lockers left if you come down afterhours.
If any one is wondering if the beaches are open let them know they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get out there and get fishing,
Keep those knees a knocking
(love and misss you Tim)

Well I have been slaking to say the least on my news updates, but for someone who is computer illiterate it is much easier for me to update my facebook page Quonny Bait and Tackle.
The inshore fishing this year has been nothing lesss than spectacular, with fluke being an exception. Stripe Bass has numbers have been huge and well Sea Bass is just nuts. Scup are bigger than ever, and the Snapper Blues, which were never seen last year, are running crazy. Quonny Pond is holding a tremendous amount of bait, mullett, silvresides, bay anchovies, mummies, skip jacks, cunner fish, and peanut bunker dime sized and up. Lets hope this all signals a fantastic fall run from our beaches.
The only sore spot, and believe me, it is truley a sore spot has been surf fishing. Everyone knows things slow down with the heat, but this year has been extremely dry for the surf rats. If you put enough time in you might come up with a prize, but many fisherman have been coming up empty handed unless you want to include scup in that catagory. Eels have been very hard to come by, but we are keeping them in stock and hopefully staying at $2 per eel.
I heard from some divers that it looks to be a great year for tatoug. Divers report seeing hugh schools off the local rocky areas.
